BOOK CLUB: Critical Literacy: 5th and 6th class: We have started our book club oral discussion groups on our novel Faraway Home by Marylin Taylor. They discussed comparisons between characters, setting, adjectives the author used, imagery, mood;
STEM: LIVING THINGS: We found a frog which had been left by a predator in the school yard and rescued the frogspawn. We are observing the frogspawn for the next week and learning about its life cycle. 3rd and 4th class
HOMEWORK: We are working on comprehension skills in all classes. Please ask your child these questions based on their reading book each night to improve comprehension skills. WHY? HOW DO YOU KNOW?
ART: PAINTING: 3rd and 4th class experimented with primary colours to make secondary colours. They created various tones and shades of the colours. 19/02/2020
PAINTING: Using half a magazine cutting as a stimulus continue on the image experimenting to achieve the correct the colour shade and tone. 5th and 6th class
Displaying our Literacy Work: We have chosen a piece of writing that we are proud of to display for others.
CRITICAL LITERACY: POETRY STUDY: The children in 5th and 6th class analysed the poem "Lake Isle of Innisfree" discussing the theme, mood, rhyme, rhyming pattern, imagery, emotions it evokes, stanza and poetic language used.
NEW LANGUAGE CURRICULUM: We integrated literacy into our SESE subjects by using visual organisers to display facts about the Arctic, Antarctic and Polar Animals
STEM: ENERGY AND FORCES: SOUND. We carried out an experiment to demonstrate how sounds are produced by vibrations.
POWER HOUR: 5TH AND 6TH CLASS: We have concluded our 4 weeks of Powerhour covering reading fluency, comprehension, spelling strategies, grammar and writing genres.
