Guest Speaker: START MEET THE SCIENTIST: webinar with Prof. Lowry a surgeon. 5th and 6th class22/11/2023 We really enjoyed Science Week in the Infant Room. We completed some experiments & watched a Magical Science Show as part of The Galway Science & Technology Festival.
AIM: Use recycled materials to make a kite that will fly
Maths: List the shapes in your kite, name the types of angles in your kite, estimate the degrees in each angle, measure the dimensions of your kite, find the perimeter of the kite. SESE: List the materials used in your kite and give a characteristic of each material eg. transparent, opaque, waterproof. Digital Literacy: Research how a kite can fly, research who made the first kite in history. research the best designs/materials to include in a kite. WE WILL NEED A WINDY, DRY DAY TO TEST OUR KITES!!! We designed and made individual rockets last week as our October project. The rain was kind enough to stop today so we could finally go and launch our rockets! What fun we had! We measured the distance travelled by the rockets and one person from each class went into a rocket launching final. We measured the length, diameter, radius and circumference of our rockets in 5th and 6th class. Children in 1st and 2nd estimated how far they thought their rocket would travel. Well done on the unique and creative rocket designs!
