We are developing our social skills this term. So far we have been working on respect, decision making, forward planning and accepting defeat graciously.
Sports Committee: catalogue all sports equipment; lead the Fyffee's Fit Squad initiative in all classes;
Poly-tunnel Supervisors: make a list of what is needed for poly-tunnel; allocate planting beds to each class; catalogue the seeds we have; research planting in autumn; ICT Committee: catalogue tablets and headphones available; sign in and find required passwords; number tablets and pair each with a charger; prepare 7 tablets for station teaching in 1st and 2nd class; Chess Committee: count boards and pieces; separate chess pieces into bags and label black/ white; organise chess boards for 1st and 2nd class chess lesson on Thursdays; We read newspaper articles in pairs and highlighted the important points. We then prepared and delivered an oral summary of the newspaper article of our choice. We are working on our presentation skills in preparation for debating in the classroom. We worked on our stance, projecting our voice and working as a team.
We have started a social and cognitive skills programme in 5th and 6th class which focuses on respect, accepting defeat, forward planning, conversation, teamwork, decision making, patience, resilience and practice. We have started by introducing the pawn this week. We focused on showing respect for our opposition, holding eye-contact and positioning our pawns to support each other.
We have set up "Our Goal Board" in 5th and 6th class to encourage the pupils to reflect on their learning and set a meaningful, personal goal for September. We can't wait to discuss our progress at the end of the month!
Wacky Wednesday is all about celebrating our individuality. Everybody was encouraged to wear bright clothes and to show their uniqueness. The infants listened to the story "Wacky Wednesday" by Dr. Seuss. It was very funny and they had a great time looking for all the wacky things in the pictures. The whole school took part in a catwalk show to show off our fabulous outfits and then we had dancing and some races. It was a fantastic day!
Today, we talked about all the things we are thankful for. Each pupil chose some of the things they were most thankful for and wrote or drew them on their flower. They then hung their colourful flowers on Our Gratitude Tree which is displayed in the hall. Our Wellness Week got off to a great start today with Movement Monday! We had races, dancing and lots of movement activities. Click to set custom HTML
The children had a great time today playing with their new Mud Kitchen. This kitchen was made by the Transition Year Students in Dunmore Community School and kindly donated to Garrafrauns N.S. by our past pupils.
